MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) - More than 3,200 people have died from swine flu worldwide, with the total number of officially confirmed cases reaching 271,000, Russia's consumer watchdog said on Friday citing a World Health Organization report.

"The total number of laboratory-confirmed human cases of the A/H1N1 infection stands at 270,812, including 3,270 deaths worldwide," Rospotrebnadzor said in a statement.

Russian sanitary officials are continuing to check flights arriving in the country from destinations with confirmed cases of swine flu. Rospotrebnadzor reported it has checked 15,000 flights, about 1.3 million passengers and 96,500 crew members.

The watchdog said 916 people diagnosed with symptoms were registered during the airport checks. All of them received medical treatment, including 799 who were hospitalized in order to carry out tests.

As of August 26, 211 people have been diagnosed with swine flu in Russia. There have been no reported deaths.
